Victoria Falls
overview and best spots
- It's a World Heritage Site; one of the "seven Natural Wonders of the
World"; at this point the Zambezi has the largest curtain of falling water
on the planet; it's "Africa's Adventure Capital"; offers the "wildest one
day whitewater rafting trip in the world" plus an array of extreme sports
and safari activities.
- Whether you tackle Vic Falls from the Zimbabwean or Zambian side it's
still the most hyped up adventure centre in Africa. It draws everybody
from young adventurers in overland trucks to travelers looking for a
luxurious and lazy stop-over. Like Ngorongoro Crater in East Africa
it's the one place that should be included on every first time itinerary to
southern Africa! Visit any time of year....
- Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) and Livingstone (Zambia) both offer
accommodation from 5 star luxury to the least expensive budget hostels -
matching every budget.
- Importantly we have international airports on both side of the Zambezi
with simple access into the best safari destinations in Botswana, Zambia,
Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.
- Our top votes: on the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi - Victoria
Falls Safari Lodge, Victoria Falls Hotel, Ilala Lodge. On the Zambian
shoreline - Toka Leya, Tongabezi, Waterberry Lodge.
- Lemons: none in Victoria Falls
Best ideas on either side of the Zambezi River

- beats the Shotover (NZ) and Colorado (USA), untouched in Africa.
- The "horse back trails", "lion encounter" and "elephant back trails"
are particularly popular and must be booked in advance.
- ...then there's more: river boarding, kayaking, bungee jumps,
abseiling, jet boating, helicopter flips, micro light flights, upper
Zambezi canoeing, Zambezi River cruises, fishing trips, walking trails,
game drives in Zambezi National Park or Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park,
Livingstone, Village and Vic Falls town tours, Chobe Day Trips...

Best time of year
- Victoria Falls is essentially an all-year destination - it's
dry from May to November, "green" from December to April
- ...for wildlife May to October,
- ...for birding September to March,
- ...easiest climate May to September, best light in May, best
clouds and sunsets from November to March
- Rafting at Victoria Falls is dependent on the Zambezi water
levels.
- In a nutshell, low water is the most exciting season. This runs from
around mid July to early January with water levels dropping progressively
until the lowest levels are reached during December and January.
- Our annual rains start in the middle of November but it's only in January
that the headwaters start hitting the falls and levels climb again.
The flood peak usually hits us in the Falls around Easter
time. Operations stop when the floods are at their peak between
mid March to around end April.
