"The #1 Ladies'
Detective Agency": Alexander McCall Smith's blockbuster novel series, "The #1 Ladies' Detective Agency", has been adapted for television, and will be showing as a series on HBO
in the USA.
The two-hour pilot, directed by the late Anthony Minghella, premieres on Sunday 29 March 2009 on HBO, and will be followed each Sunday for the next six weeks by a weekly installment of Mma Ramotswe's adventures. The series was shot on location in Botswana, with the larger than life Precious Ramotswe, fictional owner of Botswana's only female-owned detective agency, played by Grammy Award-winner Jill Scott.

"You’re a Kenyan bush pilot.
You fly in some critical medical supplies, enjoy a quick lunch at the hospital. It's a stifling 40 degrees in the shade and you're eager to get back up to the
cool, high blue yonder. On the way back to your plane, you discover that the only bit of
shade within 1 mile has become very popular.
You start calculating the distance to the plane door and
wonder...... "
